I'm predicting this year to be the year of the upsets (although I think that every year, so who knows if you should believe me). I have some lower seeds going big places, and some higher seeds losing on the first weekend.
What can I say? I love mid majors...especially this year.
In the first round alone, I have 7 double digit seeds winning their opening games (San Diego State, Georgia Tech, Murray State, Cornell, Washington, Siena, and Old Dominion). Not to mention, I seriously considered advancing a few more (including Houston, UTEP, and Utah State).
Don't be afraid to make upset picks this year. There are plenty of teams with Giant Killer potential. And make sure you pick at least one 12 seed to beat a 5 seed. It is a near guarantee that at least one 12 seed will win (as shown by at least one 12 seed winning almost every year for the last 11 years).
Also, a few lower seeds have the potential to push themselves into the Elite 8 and beyond. BYU, Texas A&M, and Richmond are three great examples that I can think of. I settled on advancing only one of the three into the Elite 8 (and the Final Four), but think the other two have just as much potential.
Basically, don't be afraid to make bold predictions this year. Anyone can beat anyone, and this year looks like a great year for the underdogs.

I agree.. I have a lot of the same upsets that you do.. (San Diego State, Georgia Tech, Cornell, Siena, as well as Richmond beating Nova.) I feel that upsets are bound to happen this year, with a lot of teams getting seeded higher then what they should of.. Nova being the perfect example.. However I still feel that who ever can make it out of the Midwest Region alive, be it OSU, Kansas, or for your sake Brian, MSU, will be the team winning it all.. That has to be one of the toughest regions that I can remember for quite awhile.
ReplyDeleteTexas A&M is my biggest push to be able to make it deep, why? Because the south bracket is in HOUSTON! That would be a freaking home game for them and we all know about home court advantage
