MLSuck - Brian

So while I was at Adam's house over the weekend, we were scanning channels to find something good on TV when we came across an MLS game. We briefly stopped on it to check it out because it was on ESPN, so we gave it a shot. It was awful.

Just because soccer was invigorated momentarily during the World Cup in the US does not mean that we are ready to embrace MLS. I am fully committing myself to becoming a soccer fan, but of the Premier League in Europe, not MLS.

MLS is the abused step child of worldwide soccer. All but 3 of the US World Cup team members played for European club teams. The best soccer leagues in the world reside in Europe. Premier League soccer is considered by most to be better games than the World Cup. That means it is more exciting, more competitive, and more spectacular.

And the MLS? It was like watching high school soccer all over again. I watched some of Hiram College's soccer games since I have been there, and the play looked better than what I was seeing on ESPN that day. After that, I just don't think I can get into MLS like I do other sports, and therefore I have to stick to European soccer which is a shame.

Basically, ESPN needs to stop trying to shove new sports down our throats like they have been with MLS and lacrosse. The only way to make the MLS work is to have it be on par with European leagues and wait until the US does incredibly well in the World Cup, when US interest will have peaked.
