The "Least" - Brian

My roommate and I have been having an ongoing arguments, pretty much since we met: Who is better - Cavs or Nuggets? This only applies to the last few seasons (last year and this current season) and of course we both think we like the better team.

I love the Nuggets; he loves the Cavs.

I think my argument carries much more weight than his, so I will go ahead an give you my side of the argument.

I think the Nuggets are better for one main reason - The Nuggets play in the Western Conference and the Cavs play for the "Leastern" Conference. Now the Cavs do have the better overall record; that I will admit (Cavs are 38-11, the Nuggets are 32-15). The Cavs have compiled their record against some weak competition (Wizards, Pistons, and the 4-42 Nets). Just for a point of reference, the West's 11th best team has a better record than the East's 5th best team.

Therefore the Nuggets have been playing harder competition, and still are only 5 games behind the Cavs. Lets not forget to mention that the Nuggets beat the Cavs this season 99-97 (and this was without Melo playing). Both teams made the Conference Finals last season, with both teams losing. The Lakers then proceeded to annihilate the Magic in the Finals.

Put the Cavs in the West and the Nuggets in the East, and I will guarantee the Nuggets would have a better record than the Cavs this season (oh, and did I mention the Nuggets have the best record against teams .500 and better?).

So there it is folks. The Nuggets are better than the Cleveland LeBrons.

  1. Although i will agree that the west i a stronger conference, I wil rebuddle with this: I first handedly witnessed a coversation betweenthese two roomates about how basketball is a more even keel game than most othe sports. No team has ever gone undefeated in the nba. Every team has their easy wins. The nuggets/cavs game was oe that could have gone either way, and as any sports person knows, basketball has its lucky over good moments. All Teams have off days, even the nuggs. This argument is one that could be swung both ways, but numbers do not lie, maybe the cvs would be worse if in the west, MAYBE! maybe the Nuggets would run the east, MAYBE! lot of maybes and if's, 38-11 LBJ,MO,Z- 32-15 MELO, JR, BIRDMAN, both have great rosters with incredible chemistry, neither have won it all. So i finish mking thepoint that the Cavs and Nuggs are on very similar levels( similar roster talents, W-L, Depth in the playoffs) tis argumet is pointless because there are too many WHAT IFS & MAYBES! 4. MOST SHOTS TAKEN EVER IN THE GAME! I'd be good too if I took that many shots. Its a shame he beat wests scoring record. west has him in ppg and ASSISTS per game. Only thing in kobes dictionary is points and shooting. no such thing as passing.

  5. I didn't know passing puts points on the board, oh wait IT DOESN'T. What wins games? buckets! who scored 81 in one game? Kobe. Assists per game? passing? if you want to talk WNBA that's fine, but this topic is about the NBA

  7. who said the Anonymous commenter is Jamie?

  8. First off. Assists are 2 or 3 points that someone else is scoring. so LBJ could have 30 points 10 boards and 10 assists that is accounting for maximum 60 points, max I am saying. That is a majority of the points scored in a game. Do not take away from the importance of an assist.

  9. Also, This is not Jamie

  11. Yea without Melo playing...I would love to see how many games the Cavs could win without LBJ

  12. if we are talking WNBA stats then lets compare good sportsmanship and effort towards the game psh get that bush league shit outta here.
I'm not saying assist are worthless, I'm saying assists are relative. Lets say the over rated LBJ gets his precious triple double that everyone loves to talk about thus achieving your 60 hypothetical points. The Black Mamba on the other hand instead of passing it 10 times only passes 5 times but those other 5 times he had the rock he drenched the net. producing the same score only difference being at the end of the season Kobe is holding another Larry O'Brien and King James has his precious triple doubles. Lakers were 2-0 against the cavs in 09, what?!

  13. This is 2010 sir, I don't believe we are talking about past seasons. So, mute points. It doesn't matter championships, or 2-0 in 09. Stats this year say lebron is better than kobe. Brian, your argument being said, who has the better supporting cast?

  14. 1) first lets see if Lebron will ever even make it to the finals
    2) you still going to be a Cavs fan when King James is playing for the Knicks?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I honestly think the Nuggets have the better cast. Without Melo, they have been 7-4 (which is pretty decent when losing your best player). Take away LeBron over an 11 game span and I just can't see them have an over .500 record for those games. So I can admit that LBJ is better than Melo, but Melo has the better cast this season.

  17. who is this second Anonymous poster if it isn't Jam...er the first Anonymous poster and can you change your name possibly to "Anonymous Poster 2" so that we can differentiate Anonymous from Anonymous Poster 2?

  18. Anonymous poster 1:

Thank you brian for saying lebron is better. I don't think you can say that the cavs wouldnt do so well in the west because it will never happen that they get a chance to be in the west. Denver has to make it out of the west, cavs out of the east. then we will see whats up. but till then. argument is over.

What happens if cavs get jamison? or stoudemire?

how much better are they then?

  19. Brian the lEast conference beat the bWest conference in the all star game...

  20. All Star game is by no means an indicator of who has the better conference...it is all for show, and now one tries or plays any semblance of defense, and you can't tell me otherwise.

If the Cavs pick up Jamison or Stoudemire, then I might be inclined to say they would be on the same level as the Nuggets. But I still stuggle with the thought of how well they wouldl play (even with Stoudemire) without LBJ...I just can't imagine they would play well.

If they get one of those two, I will check out how the Cavs do with them, and maybe I will make another post re-examining this topic.

    Until then...

  21. This is interesting, Queen James gets Jamison which means Brian could consider them on the same level as the Nuggets. However tonight the Cleveland LeBrons ruined their 13 game winning streak to who? the Nuggets! but don't worry Cavs fans LeBron got one of those neat triple doubles haha!
