Expanding - Brian

If you follow college sports at all, you will have noticed the changes lately.

Over the last few weeks, there has been a whirlwind of speculation as to what is happening with realignment and all that jazz (random tangent: anyone else hate that its the Utah Jazz and the New Orleans Hornets? Anyway we can get them to switch mascots?). Now that the dust has finally settled, the damage isn't as bad as everyone predicted.

The Big Ten got a great addition with Nebraska. The Pac-10 feels victorious with its addition of Colorado (Why? They are not good in any major sport and have sub-par academics). And, the Big 12 now has 10 teams, can play a round robin schedule, and has a better conference because of it. The Mountain West also scored with the addition of Boise State, and now has 4 legitimate BCS threats along with Utah, BYU, and TCU (although Utah appears to be bolting for the Pac-10).

Either way, everyone seems to win and the dreaded 16 team super conferences are put on hold for now (although its speculated that this will still happen within the next year).

One more point: the MWC deserves to be an automatic bid BCS conference. They now have 3 viable threats to be bigtime BCS teams (assuming Utah leaves) which, in all reality, is the same amount every other conference has each year. Plus, the MWC is way better than the Big East, and yet the Big East still gets a BCS bid each year. Doesn't make sense to me, but that's a topic for another blog.

(Oh, and this is to break the record for most points in parentheses in one post. Holla!)

  1. I am not sure why you don't like hornets as a mascot...but I totally agree with you on the Utah "Jazz". Jazz...seriously?? That is not threatening at all, what does their mascot dress up as? A horribly meanacing piano?

  2. Well I mean they should switch names with each other, because New Orleans is known for music (specifically jazz), so in all essence they should be the Jazz and Utah should be the Hornets.

  3. the Jazz were originally from New Orleans then moved to Utah same goes for the Lakers use to be in Minnesota "the land of 1000 lakes" and now they are in LA...where there are no lakes

  4. I am fully aware of this, but it doesn't make their mascot any less stupid...now that there is a New Orleans team again they should switch back.

  5. that comment was more for Ellen than you. you do make a good point... however I don't think the hornets are fitting for Utah...perhaps now that Charlotte has a team again they go back to the hornets and Utah become the bobcats?

    New Orleans Jazz
    Charlotte Hornets
    Utah Bobcats

    makes sense to me
