Week 4 - Adam

Week 4 is here for my fantasy team my current record is 2-1 I am about to go up against Alan who is 0-3.

I'd hate to be the one that ends his magnificent losing streak but my QB Romo has a bye week this week.

I'm really hoping that Alan's terribleness will get me through this week and give me a nice solid 75% winning average.

Also tonight is my day to post on the new blog so keep your eyes open for that...

I don't know if I've said this before or not but my battery life on my lap top sucks and has slowly been getting worse since January until now hopefully I'll be able to finish up the year and complete my resolution.

other than that... that is pretty much my life... tomorrow we are having a pot luck at the office so I'm pretty excited about it.

Pot lucks are the Olympics of meals and here is why:

At a potluck everyone brings together the one thing they can cook the best. Imagine everyone is a country and the food is their athlete. In the Potluck (Olympics) you bring the best of the best to the table (literally) because of this the audience wins we all get to enjoy fantastic competition (or in this case a fantastic meal)

BTC - Adam

Finally the conference games for Ohio State start up. This saturday we play Illinois, this is our first away game of the season, that's right for the entire month of September the buckeyes never left columbus, this worries me a bit because they could have gotten pretty comfortable with waking up rolling out of bed and walking to the shoe.

#2 just makes me nervous I hate when we are ranked this high. If Mallet wouldn't have thrown that last interception, we would be #1 in the nation right now. I don't think Illinois will be too big of a problem its just the traveling for the first time, I mean they are in a different time zone than us...

Idahon't think so - Adam

So Brian and I have been posting on our new blog for a bit now and his latest post has rubbed me the wrong way

BSU is over rated and over hyped. They barely beat Oklahoma by one point pulling all their crazy trick plays with no time left and suddenly they are a BCS contending team? I don't think so, I know the voters and doing BSU a favor by ranking them 3rd to shut them up, mean while crossing their fingers that they don't go undefeated so they have to put them in the title game which WILL be a blow out ending in the a giant Bronco loss and an I told you so from America to Brian and his over rated Broncos.

We will see how OSU does against them this weekend, lets all hope they can piss this fire out before it burns the whole college football forest down.

Rufus the Dufus - Adam

Last Saturday the OU mascot tackled Brutus before the game started up.

Not that wild... until you find out that the man in the costume had been plotting to attack Brutus for a year. And that his ONLY motivation for becoming the OU Bobcat was to tackle Brutus.

I have to give it to this guy, Spite that runs that deep, I can get down with that.

Although I am a Buckeye fan I can certainly appreciate a year long plot like this one.

As an OSU fan I realize how much other schools hate the fans and the school in general its understandable we are consistently good and often rated higher than we probably should.

Do I think we should play for the national title every year? hell no! I'm perfectly content beating Fichigan and wining big ten titles and every now and then a bowl game.

I understand how some Buckeye fans can maybe let the pre season ranking go to their heads and shove it down all other Ohio School's throats. But to get mad when one of them has the guts to retaliate like this? come on it was ballzy and I liked it

Taco Night - Adam

Last night was taco night.

what does that mean to you? It means that I have to post a mondo blog right now.

it also means that last night me and the roomies (Matt and Dain) ate some tacos and watched the first half of the Manning bowl.

after half time and dish washing we fired up the XboX and played some serious Halo Reach.

these two events mixed with Dain's charity softball game today made me think about how some people are just too over competitive.

there is a time and place for everything I don't doubt that it is all a matter of figuring out the time and place for these certain things and being able to master when and where to implement them.

If not you just end up looking like a over competitive dude, you know the type.

StereoCrash - Adam

Yesterday I'm driving and I am trying to turn left so I flip on the signal kinda get over and wait for the oncoming traffic to pass.

Next thing I hear is the screech of tires and the crunch of metal as my car jumps forward while my foot is on the brake.

so I put my car in park hop out and there is a crying 16 year old girl on her cell phone apologizing to me.

I wanted so much for it to not be a female driver but it was and the situation fueled my stereotype of certain drivers operating vehicles.

I just recently got a new insurance plan in my name earlier this month so at least I'm getting my money's worth.

Save the Children - Adam

I don't understand why certain things are the way they are.

Doesn't it seem like people use the "save the children" card for just about every situation?

Why can't athletes use steroids? because the children look up to them.
Why can't I cuss in public? because there are ears of children around
Why no violence on TV? because the children will see

do you get my point? but I think the one thing the public is over looking is that children become adults...

so at what age to we stop caring about them? At what age do they have to be before we can cuss at him flip them off while driving and treat them like normal people in society?

Believe it or not generations before us use to smoke while pregnant, hit their children, and let them watch whatever they wanted. and do you know how that generation turned out? just like all the rest of them perfectly fine adults.

my point is we need to stop looking at humans as either children or adults and start looking at them as people.

A.I. - Adam

So my roommates and I are playing Mario Party 3 tonight and since you have to play with 4 players the computer is killing us, so much better than we are.

Then as Dain is leaving to play volleyball he tells me 4 hours until Halo Reach comes out.

this makes me think, life before playing online really sucked, no one could see all of your accomplishments. Worst of all you have to play against computers. These days game designers don't even have to worry about artificial intelligence because everyone wants to play online and against each other.

what good is it if you beat the computer? it doesn't matter, I can show the computer I'm better than it by expressing the emotion love. your room circuit board...

I wish they would just re-release every game ever made only this time make them online and keep everything the same.

Prediction VII - Adam

With the advancements in food technology rapidly changing and simplifying I am beginning to see a trend and I'm confident that by the end of this session on the pot you too will see.

If you have ever been to a grocery store lately and waltzed through the pop tart isle you will notice one thing. Pop tart flavors are expanding faster than the most interesting man's reputation.

Every type of tasty dessert you could think of has been crammed into the tart.

Next if you walk down a few more isles you'll find the hot pockets. Breakfast pockets, lean pockets, side shots, any type of meal you can imagine has been jammed into the pocket.

By now you are probably drawing the same conclusion I am, and if you are anything like me, you are getting very excited about the future.

In the future, Every meal we eat will be in a pocket that can be warmed in a microwave. and Dessert will be served in a microwavable tart.

Think about the dishes you'll never have to wash, think about the time you will save, think about the simplicity of setting something in the microwave, think of the nutrients, and hopefully not to far away think of the limitless flavor combinations and types.

if only we could get beverages into some sort of pocket or tart we'd be all set. Doğal Eğlence!

Stranger Danger - Adam

so I'm playing Halo 3 with my good friend Travis this past weekend and, as I often do, I started talking some trash.

when I talk trash on online video games I have one of two out comes:

1) I do better than the person in which case I tell them they are a noob
2) I do worse then the person in which case I tell them they are a nerd

in this certain instance the person I was talking to feel into the "nerd" category. As most people tend to.

but after I was finished calling him a nerd he sent Travis a voice message.
the message was his rebuttal, he explained his many incredible achievements in high school athletics.

it got me thinking:
why do people care what strangers think?
Strangers opinions are probably the most valuable thing to the human mind.
we will act like an idiot in front of people we know but once there are strangers around...put on your A game.

I don't understand it and I have to admit I certainly fall victim to it.

I can't have strangers think badly of me for the next minute...

in the words of Dave Ramsey:

We buy things we don't need
with money we don't have
to impress people we don't like

Gift of the Magi - Adam

I love getting and giving purposeful gifts.
or gifts that have significant value.
the gift card might be the biggest knife in the back there is for intimate exchanges.
having said that, the gift card has gotten me out of a lot last minuet gift idea jams.
Nothing beats when you are walking through a store and you spot an item and instantly you know " oh man blank would LOVE this!"
those moments, although rare, make for the best gifts.
for example here are some of the most memorable gifts I've ever been given:
when I was in 8th grade my friends and I started carrying around pez dispensers (don't ask why) but I would always tell them "man I wish they came out with some gum pez or mint flavor so that this was actually worth carrying instead of just poping and handing out fruit flavored chalk bits.
unbeknown to me Travis listened to my compliant went on some vacation spotted peppermint pez and gave them to me. It was unexpected but very desired.
a week ago today my coworkers gave me a graduation present. it was an "I heart Brad" t-shirt because they knew I like Brad Pitt's movies and am striving to collect them all.

Things like this just get you amped to know that people listen to you and secretly get you something. Nothing beats seeing something in the store that you know one of your friends would love to have (I bought Brian Bill Simmons' newest book for his birthday this year the kid loved it)

Nothing beats a good gift. I don't know if any of you have seen Alan's new post yet but I won't stand for it, and neither will you!

The Draft - Adam

First and foremost I wanted to inform all of you of the new blog The Filibust.
The Filibust is a blog written by Alan Brian Travis and myself. We will each post one blog per week.
Alan Monday
Brian Tuesday
Travis Wednesday
Adam Thursday
The Filibust, unlike Paper Work, is written not while I'm on the throne. this allows for more indepth content, better illistrated ideas, and of course less grammar errors. I will however continue to keep my new years resolution going strong by posting on this blog as well until 2011.

Monday night I participated in my first Fantasy Football Draft. It was a live draft and since I was unable to attend they had to telephone conference me in. Aside from not hearing when certain players I really wanted were snatched up, it went pretty well for me.

I'm excited to try and hold my own in this league so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have to wrap this up now though because my roommate is dog sitting and I'm the only one home I just let the thing outside and I can hear it barking and whining so I guess he's done going to the bathroom... although you never hear me barking and complaining at the end of my blogs...
